ETHICAL EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN AT THE SOCIETY

SEEK (Sunday Ethical Education for Kids) is available every Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

SEEK is offered to children of ages ranging from toddler through 12 years-old.  Families are welcome any given Sunday!

Moral lessons are self-contained for the day.

SEEK draws upon decades of experience, and lifetime reflections from the Ethical Movement, to provide aids, principles, strategies, stories, activities, books, songs, and curricula for raising children ethically.

Patti Martin, B.S., M.A., Director of Ethical Education, organizes and guides the full curriculum and lesson plans.

The SEEK curriculum emerges from the Ethical Society's 12 core values.  While the curriculum is often designed around monthly themes, the philosophy of SEEK is to provide whole, intact lessons, in one-hour segments.

We realize that today's parents have busy schedules... even on Sundays.  So even if it is difficult to commit to four or five months of Sunday lessons in a row, we still extend our invitation to attend when you are able.  Please don't think that it's a case of 'Full-Term' or nothing... which often leads to no attendance at all.

Come when you can (we hope it's every Sunday!)  Each ethical lesson is precious and unique.  Each one has the potential to be a lifelong source of strength and understanding for your children.

Cody, Isabella, & Marina Hoy

There is no fee to attend; and you do not have to register your children for a term or semester.  Simply join us when you can.  If you are fortunate enough to be able to bring your children regularly, the lessons will have a cumulative effect and add a sense of community with other children and parents.  The lessons will develop and add richness to the meaning of a moral life.   Even if you can bring your children only once a year, your children are still fortunate that you could give them this wonderful experience.

Children attend the 11:00 A.M. inter-generational Worth Service (approximately 10 - 15 minutes duration) with their parents and then adjourn to the SEEK room for the Children's program and Child Care until 12:15 p.m.

While SEEK is in progress, the parents remain on-site, as a clear signal to the children of the importance of this time.

Ethical education is a lifelong affair.  Ethical education involves the attainment of an attitude of openness to new learning and self-development throughout life, in a web of connection with other people and all life.  It is NOT rote memorization of rules or allegories.  It is vital that this process starts when we are young. The most meaningful gift to your children, in the long run, is ethical education. It is for their true worth - that assurance of connection in the world that gives courage in times of tribulation and joy in times of peace.

You, as parents, have moral character, and it shines through in all you do, in all your offhand remarks, in what you makes you laugh , and in what makes you angry.  Your children absorb your attitude, but they need more.   They need guidance, which includes explaining, leading, and teaching.   They need conscious, focused attention on moral matters at regular times.   This is what SEEK provides.  It's part of an ethical movement.
